FRESNO, Calif. – Santa Clara women's golf carded the second-lowest 18-hole score in program history with a second-round 5-under 283, climbing six spots up the leaderboard to finish the first day of the Fresno State Classic in fifth-place with a 586 total.
The Broncos found themselves in the bottom half of the 14-team field after a first-round 303, but they rallied behind sophomores Sarah Busey, Emily Sumner and freshman Claire Choi, who all scored below par over the second 18 holes.
Santa Clara's second-round score was bettered only by UC Davis, which scored a 281 in the afternoon to grab an 8-shot lead over Grand Canyon after 36-holes.
