Big Fourth Quarter Puts Women's Basketball Over San Diego

LAS VEGAS – A big fourth quarter lifted Santa Clara women's basketball to a 63-59 victory over San Diego Thursday afternoon in the first round of the West Coast Conference Tournament.

Dru Toleafoa's hard-earned layup at the third quarter buzzer started a 12-0 run for the Broncos (14-16, 6-12 WCC) that put them up 55-51 with 5:24 on the clock in the fourth. It was Santa Clara's first lead since 1:55 in the first quarter.

Sydney Shepard was able to cut the Toreros' (9-22, 2-16 WCC) deficit to 62-59 with 22 seconds on the clock when she connected on the first San Diego 3-pointer of the day, but Tia Hay converted at the free throw line on the other end to put the game on ice.
