Ron Caragher's first task following Saturday's Cure Bowl is to hire a defensive coordinator to replace the retiring Greg Robinson, and there are two names the search could center around.
Ace recruiter and defensive backs coach Donté Williams is the top in-house candidate, while Troy assistant head coach Jon Sumrall could also garner consideration. Williams has been at San Jose State with Caragher the past three years and gone from cornerbacks coach to coaching the entire defensive backfield. He added recruiting coordinator duties last season. The Spartans' secondary has been their strength during Caragher's tenure, ranking first in the nation in passing yards allowed last season and second this year.
