Super Bowl 50 special report: Is football an endangered species?

Doug Cosbie is a football lifer. He started playing as a kid, excelled at St. Francis High and Santa Clara University and became a Pro Bowl tight end with the Dallas Cowboys. In the quarter century since his retirement, Cosbie has remained involved in the game through coaching.

But if his young grandsons were to consider playing tackle football, Cosbie would advise against it -- at least initially. He sees no reason to put on pads and a helmet before high school."You see those bobblehead kids running around when they're eight years old with helmets that don't fit right," Cosbie said.
