Stanford lineman Joshua Garnett and San Jose State punter Michael Carrizosa recorded school firsts Thursday during college football's annual awards ceremony in Atlanta.
Garnett, a 6-foot-5, 321-pound guard, became the Cardinal's first player to win the Outland Trophy given to the country's best interior lineman. The senior human biology major also was a first-team Walter Camp All-America pick.Carrizosa, a sophomore from Salinas, became San Jose State's first Walter Camp All-America selection making the second team. Stanford sophomore Christian McCaffrey received second-team honors as a running back and kick returner.Carrizosa finished behind Tom Hackett of Utah for the Ray Guy Award, given to the country's top punter.
