San Jose State's leading receiver lost for rest of year

SAN JOSE -- San Jose State's offense suffered its biggest blow of the season with the loss of leading receiver Tyler Winston.

The 6-foot-2 junior is out for the rest of the year after hurting his left knee during the Spartans' 31-21 victory Saturday over New Mexico, coach Ron Caragher said Wednesday.Winston will need surgery to fix a detached meniscus cartilage after catching a foot on the turf during a freakish third-quarter play away from the ball. Caragher said the incident occurred with no contact."It came out fully intact," Caragher said of the soft semicircular disc of cartilage.
