San Jose State faces Hawaii in must-win game

If sports analytics were gospel, San Jose State has a giant-sized advantage in its must-win game Saturday night at Hawaii.

The Spartans' opponent at Aloha Stadium is suffering through a football existential crisis this season. To wit:

  • Hawaii's only victory over a Football Bowl Subdivision opponent came Sept. 3 in the season opener against Colorado 28-20.
  • The Rainbow Warriors fell 42-17 at home last week to a Fresno State team that San Jose State dominated 49-23.
  • Hawaii (2-9, 0-7, Mountain West) has lost eight in a row and has been outscored this season 395 to 178.
