SAN JOSE -- San Jose State reserve Malik Watson can recite a litany of backup quarterbacks who have found success by never quitting on themselves.
Start with Matt Cassel, who in 2008 replaced the injured Tom Brady in New England although never starting at USC. Cassel is in his 11th NFL season, now with the Dallas Cowboys.Another is New York Jets rookie Bryce Petty, who had to wait three years before starting at Baylor last season when he led the Bears to the Cotton Bowl.Watson, a Contra Costa College transfer, hopes to create his own happy narrative."From a personal standpoint, I'm not going to count myself out," Watson said.
