SAN JOSE -- Coach Ron Caragher didn't get clarity at the quarterback position Saturday during San Jose State's public scrimmage at Spartan Stadium.
But nothing that transpired in the defense's 16-14 victory discouraged the third-year coach as the team moves closer to the season opener Sept. 3 against New Hampshire.Although the Spartans showed positive steps overall, Caragher is no closer to naming a starting quarterback in the competition between fifth-year senior Joe Gray and Long Beach City College transfer Kenny Potter."Both need to develop," Caragher said. "I've seen better quarterback play than" Saturday. After a promising week of practice, each quarterback came away looking inconsistent in front of a crowd of about 750 fans.
