Freshman quarterback Seth Collins' third career start for Oregon State comes Saturday against San Jose State.
Blame -- or thank -- Jim Harbaugh for that.Collins, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound signal caller from El Cajon, was headed to San Jose this year. He had planned to enroll early to participate in spring drills after signing a non-binding financial aid package. Then Harbaugh entered the picture in late December by seeming to hire Jimmie Dougherty, the Spartans' offensive coordinator and assistant head coach, at Michigan.Dougherty had recruited Collins, a three-star quarterback not on Oregon State's radar initially. But the word of Dougherty's hiring led Collins to reconsider and the Beavers' new offensive coordinator, Dave Baldwin, to lure the quarterback to the Pacific Northwest.
