Heisman watch: USC quarterback Cody Kessler is leading Pac-12 candidate

Heisman projections are as flawed as preseason polls, with a barrage of factors during the season laying waste to preseason presumptions.

One year ago this week, it was difficult to find a list of Heisman Trophy candidates that did not include Florida State's Jameis Winston, Baylor's Bryce Petty, Georgia's Todd Gurley or UCLA's Brett Hundley. Along with Oregon's Marcus Mariota, they were the heavy favorites to reach New York City for the trophy ceremony. In the end, Mariota was the only member of the quintet to make it.With that in mind, here are five candidates for the 2015 trophy:

  • TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin: The best player on a preseason top-five team, Boykin tossed 33 touchdowns last season and had five games of at least 50 yards rushing.
