The San Jose State Spartans’ fall camp concludes on Saturday with an intra-squad scrimmage, open to the public with free admission. Once again, the search for the Spartans’ next starting quarterback looms large in coaches’ and fans’ minds.
For the second straight season, the team does not have a “given” starter. In 2013, Ron Caragher’s first season as head coach, senior David Fales was undoubtedly on top of the depth chart, after an 11-2 season with the highest pass completion percentage in Division I FBS.
The following year, the quarterback battle between senior Blake Jurich and junior Joe Gray reached all the way into late September.
