Following a big win against New Hampshire, the San Jose State Spartans travelled to Colorado Springs and lost their Mountain West opener to Air Force, 37-16. The game was close early on, with San Jose State trailing only 17-16 at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Mistakes on special teams and offense, as well as a worn-out defense that eventually lost Christian Tago to injury, allowed Air Force to zoom away with the win.
This time, junior Kenny Potter started as quarterback, with senior Joe Gray playing in the second and fourth quarters.
