Air Force coach Troy Calhoun described San Jose State's run defense this week as if it were the second coming of the 1985 Chicago Bears.
Yes, the same defense that ranked 116th nationally against the run last year. The Spartans (1-0) will "make it exceptionally difficult for anybody to run on them just because of what they can do with the corners," Calhoun said. "You're going to see them have a terrific run defense all year."Few would question the skill of cornerbacks Jimmy Pruitt and Cleveland Wallace III, who are among the country's best pairings. But it seems a bit early to anoint the defense with the exceptional label, particularly after last year's abysmal effort.
