SAN JOSE -- Tyler Ervin turned in a record-setting rushing performance as San Jose State earned a desperately needed 49-23 victory over Fresno State Saturday night at Spartan Stadium.
And that was just one of many things that went right for the Spartans (2-2, 1-1 Mountain West Conference) as they reclaimed the Valley Trophy from their archrivals.Ervin rushed for 300 yards, a school single-game record, and scored three touchdowns on 42 carries against Fresno State (1-3, 0-1). The senior running back had retired to the sidelines for a well-deserved rest -- he'd already rushed for 272 yards on 39 carries, and victory was well in hand -- when he learned he had a shot at the yardage mark of 286 that Nathan Dupree established at UNLV in 1992.
