SAN JOSE — Logan Couture gushed with admiration when describing the “heart” that Joe Thornton displayed Sunday, describing his willingness to fight through a knee injury in Game 3 of the Sharks first round Stanley Cup playoff series against the Edmonton Oilers as “incredible.”
Thornton would have likely said the same thing about Couture, who swapped out the cage on his helmet for a visor even though he’s playing with a mouth full of metal and plastic to hold his teeth together.
Despite the determination that Thornton and Couture showed by just being on the ice Sunday, the Sharks will need both of them to heal up and return to top form quickly if they’re going to advance past the Oilers, who lead the series 2-1.
