SAN JOSE — Dylan DeMelo understands the dilemma that the Sharks coaching staff is juggling, making him grateful that he’s just a player and not the guy who’s responsible for making daily lineup decisions.
With eight healthy defensemen, head coach Pete DeBoer is in the unenviable position of scratching two capable blue liners from the lineup on game days, which currently means benching three-time U.S Olympian Paul Martin, who’s being forced to compete for ice time against the likes of DeMelo, Joakim Ryan and Tim Heed.
“I wouldn’t want to be in their position, that’s for sure,” DeMelo said.
