SAN JOSE — It was the wakeup call that Timo Meier probably needed.
And his response Saturday was just what the Sharks wanted.
A day after he sat for long stretches of the third period, Timo Meier registered his first career NHL hat trick as the Sharks topped the Philadelphia Flyers 6-1 to snap a four-game losing streak.
Meier scored his first goal at the 9:21 mark of the second period, then added third period goals at the 1:36 and 12:52 marks as the Sharks closed out a seven-game homestand with a 2-4-1 record.
Meier’s efforts overshadowed those of Mario Ferraro and Joel Kellman, who both scored their first NHL goals to give the Sharks a 2-0 lead by the 2:39 mark of the second period.
