The Daily Chum: Tim Heed helps Barracuda move into second place

Despite an injury to Marc-Edouard Vlasic (hopefully that’s only short term), Tim Heed finds himself a fair distance from cracking the San Jose Sharks roster. That says more about the Sharks’ defensive depth than it doesn about Heed’s prospects as an NHL defender.

Heed sits atop the San Jose Barracuda with 1.12 points per game (nine goals and 20 assists) and is fifth in the AHL with 29 points among defenders. The Sharks picked him up as a free agent signing and so far look like geniuses for doing so. Anaheim drafted him in the fifth round in 2010 but the 25 year old looks to have turned a corner since joining San Jose’s organization.
