LOS ANGELES — The Sharks departed Staples Center in a spot that just three weeks ago, didn’t seem possible to reach right before Thanksgiving
After their 4-3 overtime win over the Los Angeles Kings on Monday, the Sharks now find themselves in a playoff position.
Patrick Marleau scored with 2:25 left in overtime, as he collected a loose puck in front of the Kings’ net and fired it past goalie Jonathan Quick as the Sharks picked up their third straight overtime win and their ninth victory in 10 games.
Timo Meier scored twice, Erik Karlsson had a goal and an assist and Kevin Labanc assisted on both of Meier’s goals as the Sharks (13-11-1) leapfrogged both Calgary and Vegas to move into the second wild card spot in the Pacific Division.
