Takeaways: Sharks coach issues a guarantee after loss to Red Wings

DETROIT — Life without Joe Thornton: 0-2-1.

The Detroit Red Wings (20-21-8) handed the Sharks (26-17-7) their first four-game losing streak of the season Wednesday, winning in a seven-round shootout.

Justin Abdelkader clinched the win for the Red Wings with a nifty backhand-to-forehand move. Joe Pavelski, Logan Couture and Chris Tierney scored for the Sharks in the shootout.

But by earning the single point, the Sharks moved back into second place in the Pacific Division with 60 points, breaking a three-way tie with the Los Angeles Kings and the Anaheim Ducks.
