SAN JOSE — The opening two periods of the Sharks’ game against the Winnipeg Jets on Monday afternoon was anything but boring, particularly for winger Joel Ward.

Ward scored a shorthanded goal 11:54 into the first period, but took a heavy hit from Jets defenseman Mark Stuart at the 17:21 mark of the second near the Sharks’ blue line right in front of the Winnipeg bench.
After the hit, the puck came to Chris Tierney, who set up Timo Meier for a breakaway.
