SAN JOSE — The Sharks cut ties with a former-top pick Saturday, replenishing their stock for next week’s draft.
The team traded defenseman Mirco Mueller and a 2017 fifth-round pick (No.143) to the New Jersey Devils for a second-round pick (No. 49) and a fourth-round pick (No.123) in the 2017 NHL Draft on Friday.
Mueller had been the organization’s top prospect on the blue line after they drafted him with the 18th pick in the 2013 draft. But the Swiss blue liner struggled as a 19-year-old rookie in 2014-15, posting a minus-8 rating, and then he fell behind Tim Heed and Joakim Ryan on the AHL Barracuda’s depth chart, too.
