SAN JOSE — The Sharks’ coaching staff has the luxury of knowing that Tomas Hertl can effective wherever they decide to play him in the lineup.
Right now, Hertl is back at center, and it’s tough to imagine Hertl moving back to the wing anytime soon.
Over the last two games, Hertl and wingers Joel Ward and Timo Meier have formed a big, bruising third line that’s created chances and been strong on the puck.
But beyond the third line’s obvious identity, Hertl, when he’s played in the middle, helps make the Sharks one of the NHL’s deeper teams at the position.
