Sharks’ Tomas Hertl, Aaron Dell deliver in win

Tomas Hertl broke a 1-1 tie with a late third-period power-play goal and Aaron Dell made 32 saves as the Sharks beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 at sold-out SAP Center on Saturday.

Young Pittsburgh defenseman Jamie Oleksiak cross-checked Joonas Donskoi at 1:57 of the third period, and it didn’t take the hosts long to convert.

Joe Pavelski won the resulting offensive-zone draw clean to Brent Burns at the right point. The San Jose defenseman wristed a drive toward the net that was touched by Pavelski and Hertl on to the pad of Casey DeSmith before Hertl jumped on the loose puck and deposited his 13th goal of the season past the Penguins rookie goalie just four seconds into the power play.
