Sharks split into NHL, AHL practice groups; Meier remains out

SAN JOSE – The Sharks made a significant change to their practice groups on Wednesday, essentially breaking up into NHL and AHL factions on the sixth day of training camp.

All of the NHL regulars from last season took part in the early session, joined by forwards Nikolay Goldobin, Barclay Goodrow, Ryan Carpenter, Marcus Sorensen, Micheal Haley and Kevin Labanc. On defense, Mirco Mueller, Dylan DeMelo, Patrick McNally and Joakim Ryan remain.

Pete DeBoer naturally ran the more veteran group, while Roy Sommer oversaw the younger one.

“It’s nice to get this group together and out there practicing at NHL speed,” DeBoer said.
