SAN JOSE — The Sharks announced Tuesday they have signed forward Manuel Wiederer to an entry-level contract. It is a three-year deal for Wiederer, who was the Sharks’ fifth round pick last year and is the first player from the Sharks’ 2016 draft class to sign with the team.

Wiederer, 20, played with both Moncton and Rouyn-Noranda of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League this season and finished with a combined 53 points, including 29 goals, and 29 penalty minutes in his second year in the league.

“Manuel mixes a defensively responsible two-way game with speed and offensive creativity and has proven that he can play with players much older than he is,” Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said in a statement.
