Sharks recall Melker Karlsson

SAN JOSE – Melker Karlsson has been recalled to the Sharks, joining the team for practice on Monday morning.

The 25-year-old left wing was skating with Tommy Wingels and Matt Nieto on what would be considered the Sharks’ third line, suggesting that Karlsson could be an option for Tuesday’s game with the Islanders.

Karlsson, the team’s 2014-15 rookie of the year, has been dealing with a lower body injury since training camp. He has played four games with the AHL Barracuda, including both games this weekend, with two assists and 10 shots.

Barracuda coach Roy Sommer told blogger Paul Gackle that Karlsson was “probably our best player” after Sunday’s 6-2 loss to the San Diego Gulls.
