Sharks' Marleau registers 1,000th career point on Burns' goal

PITTSBURGH – Patrick Marleau recorded his 1000th career NHL point in the city that he was drafted in by the Sharks more than 18 years ago.

On Saturday in Pittsburgh, with a secondary assist on Brent Burns’ first period goal, Marleau reached the milesetone in his 1349th career game, all with San Jose.

Marleau pushed the puck to Joel Ward in the offensive zone, and Ward’s shot was deposited by Burns on a rebound at 7:54, giving the Sharks a 1-0 lead.

Marleau, drafted by the Sharks in 1997 at the since-demolished Pittsburgh Civic Arena with the second overall pick, became the 83rd player in NHL history to reach 1000 career points.
