CALGARY, Alberta — The Sharks played with five defensemen against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday after the team made an error on the lineup card it submitted to the NHL before the game.
Defenseman Mirco Mueller was listed as being a scratch for the game on the lineup sheet the Sharks gave to the league’s official scorer. When the game began, though, Mueller was in uniform and took at least one shift with Brent Burns early in the first period.
When on-ice officials noticed Mueller on the ice, he was ruled ineligible and had to leave the game 6:36 into the first period.
