PITTSBURGH — Sharks defenseman Justin Braun played Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals with a heavy heart.
His father-in-law — former NHL player Tom Lysiak — died earlier in the day, a victim of leukemia. He was 63.
“It was tough on the family,” Braun said. “That’s a hard thing to go through.”
Lysiak played 13 NHL seasons with Atlanta and Chicago. He scored 292 goals and 843 points over 919 games. Lysiak and his wife made their home in Georgia since he retired in 1986.
“He was great, full of life,” Braun said.
