For Finland, Joonas Donskoi’s overtime goal in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals was nearly as big a deal as it was for the Bay Area.
After all, it has been nearly 30 years since a Finnish player delivered a game-winning goal on the NHL’s biggest stage. Jari Kurri scored the deciding goal for Edmonton in Game 7 in 1989 against Philadelphia.
“When I told Joonas that, he was like, ‘Whoa,’” said Tommi Seppälä of Finnish broadcast network YLE. “Jari Kurri was the guy in Finland.
