PHILADELPHIA — Early this month, the Sharks were flying high, with Patrick Marleau’s 500th career goal highlighting a win that was the team’s eighth in nine games.
Saturday, the Flyers became the latest team to ground San Jose, as Wayne Simmonds’ overtime goal gave Philadelphia a 2-1 victory that was the Sharks’ fourth in a row.
Three of the outcomes during San Jose’s skid have been settled after regulation.
“Those are coin flips,” Sharks coach Peter DeBoer said of overtime and shootouts. “I don’t feel we’re in a rut.”
Simmonds scored on a breakaway just over a minute into OT.
