Sharks edge Jets as Joe Thornton reaches milestone

WINNIPEG, Manitoba – While the Sharks power play has been awful as of late, they found the net on the penalty kill in their 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets at MTS Centre on Monday night.

While it didn’t prove to be the game-winner, Mikkel Boedker’s third period shorthanded goal was the difference, as Logan Couture sprung the 27-year-old on a breakaway, beating Jets netminder Connor Hellebuyck high stick side for his ninth goal of the season.

Joe Pavelski scored twice, including his 23rd of the season into an empty net.

Veteran Sharks centerman Joe Thornton earned an assist on Joe Pavelski’s empty-net goal inside the final minute, as the 37-year-old recorded his 1,000th career assist in his 1,432 NHL game.
