DALLAS — Doug Wilson suggested that he might roll the dice on a high-risk player with the Sharks first pick. He certainly delivered in Dallas Friday night.
With the 21st pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, the Sharks selected defenseman Ryan Merkley from the Ontario Hockey League’s Guelph Storm. Merkley is believed to have a top-10 skill set, but team shied away from him because of a series of controversies that plagued in during his junior hockey career.
In February, Merkley received a three-game suspension for slashing an opponent across the legs as though he was swinging a baseball bat.
