SAN JOSE — Defenseman Dylan DeMelo will play for the Sharks on Sunday against the Minnesota Wild after he escaped what would have been a major eye injury the night before in San Jose’s game against the Ottawa Senators.
DeMelo was injured with 5:09 to go in the third period of Saturday’s game with Ottawa as he took a stick to face from Senators forward Alexandre Burrows. DeMelo was cut on the play but also suffered a scratched cornea, according to coach Pete DeBoer.
Burrows was given a two-minute minor for roughing, a five-minute major for fighting and a game misconduct.
