SAN JOSE — Brent Burns was named one of the NHL’s Three Stars for the month of January as he reasserted himself as one of the league’s premier defensemen.

Burns led all defensemen with six goals, 12 assists and 18 points in 14 games to lift the Pacific Division-leading Sharks to a 9-4-1 record in January. He recorded at least one point in 10 of 14 games, and had six multi-point games.

After a 9-4-1 January, the Sharks are in sole possession of first place in the Pacific with 66 points, one point ahead of Anaheim.

Burns, 31, is fourth in the NHL with 21 goals and 53 points — leading all defensemen in both categories — through 51 games.
