Brent Burns is not so quietly putting together an amazing offensive season.
Projected over an 82-game season before Friday’s game in Ottawa, the Sharks’ top blue liner was on pace to score 29 goals and 69 points — both easily career highs — and put 365 shots on goal, an astounding number.
Burns not only led all NHL defensemen on shots through Thursday, but he was also tied for second overall with Montreal forward Max Pacioretty with 138 on goal. Annual leader Alexander Ovechkin of Washington wasn’t that far away with 146.
