LAS VEGAS — The Sharks on Tuesday were disappointed but not altogether surprised that Joe Thornton was suspended for one game for an illegal check to the head of Vegas Golden Knights forward Tomas Nosek in Game 3.
Thornton received the suspension Monday, hours after he, general manager Doug Wilson and coach Pete DeBoer had a hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety. He will sit out Game 4 of the first round playoff series at T-Mobile Arena. The Sharks trail the best-of seven series two-games-to-one.
“Disappointed,” Sharks coach Pete DeBoer said. “I understand where the league is contact to the head.
