The San Jose Sharks started this season off going 15-16-2 in what would’ve been Peter DeBoer‘s fifth full season as the Sharks head coach. This wasn’t good enough for Sharks’ management as DeBoer and his staff were fired and Bob Boughner was appointed interim head coach.
After making the postseason in all of DeBoer’s previous four seasons with the Sharks, including a Stanley Cup Finals appearance in his first season, one game under .500 was not going to cut it.
Since Boughner has taken over bench duties, the Sharks have gone 14-20-3.
