The NHL’s 24-team playoff proposal as a potential way to return to the ice this spring reportedly had gained enough momentum by Thursday night that it was being voted on by the Players’ Association’s executive board. The San Jose Sharks would be among the seven teams left out of the action.
The Sharks’ 63 points (they were 29-36-5) when play was halted is the fewest in the Western Conference. The only other teams in the West with fewer than 70 points are the King and the Ducks.
That leaves 12 teams for 12 spots on the Western half of the proposed bracket.
