Peter DeBoer will be involved with hockey this summer even if the San Jose Sharks fail to make the postseason. Earlier this week, DeBoer was named as an assistant coach for Team North America at the upcoming 2016 World Cup of Hockey that will take place in Toronto.
There, DeBoer will rejoin former Sharks head coach Todd McLellan and assistant Jay Woodcroft, whom he served as an assistant with on Team Canada’s gold-medal winning World Championships team last year. Also, Arizona Coyotes head coach Dave Tippett and Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper will serve as assistants, while Edmonton Oilers General Manager Peter Chiarelli and Chicago Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman will serve as the architects for the team.
