SAN JOSE — The NHL admitted to the Vegas Golden Knights that it messed up a game-changing call that gave the Sharks a five-minute power play in the third period of Game 7 in their first round series.
With the Golden Knights leading by three goals, center Cody Eakin was assessed at five-minute major and a game misconduct with 10:47 left in regulation time for cross-checking Sharks captain Joe Pavelski immediately after a faceoff in the Vegas end.
It did not appear Eakin’s cross-check hit Pavelski in the face. But Pavelski was knocked off balance and then pushed by Vegas center Paul Stastny.
