Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk was arguably the biggest prize on the market as the March 1 NHL trade deadline approached. A pending unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, Shattenkirk, one of the league’s premier skating defenseman, was dealt by the St. Louis Blues on Feb. 27, along with Pheonix Copley, to the Washington Capitals for Zachary Sanford, Brad Malone, the Capitals’ first round draft pick this year and a conditional second round pick in 2019.
Shattenkirk spent a few minutes talking to reporters at SAP Center Thursday morning, hours before the Capitals face the Sharks.
