SAN JOSE — Joe Thornton wasn’t taking any credit Thursday for motivating his teammates to score on the power play after Cody Eakin of the Vegas Golden Knights was assessed a five-minute major in the third period of Game 7.
Despite evidence to the contrary, Thornton said it was, ahem, coach Pete DeBoer and assistant Steve Spott who got the Sharks fired up to convert with the man-advantage while down by three goals with 10:47 left in the third period.
Eakin was given a cross-checking major and a game misconduct when Joe Pavelski suffered a head injury right after a faceoff in the Golden Knights’ zone.
