Matt Irwin has found a new home.
The 27-year-old defenseman, who spent the first six years of his pro career in the Sharks organization, signed a 1-year contract with the Boston Bruins for $800,000. Irwin spent two years in nearby Amherst from 2008-10, playing at the University of Massachusetts.
Irwin broke into the NHL full time in the shortened 2013 season. In 151 NHL games over three seasons, he has 16 goals and 34 assists for 50 points and 63 penalty minutes.
The Sharks never seemed all that interested in bringing Irwin, an unrestricted free agent, back to San Jose.
