Joe Thornton will be back with the Sharks for at least another season.
Per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, Thornton, at the NHL Awards’ media availability on Tuesday, said he wants return to San Jose for what would be his 22nd NHL season.
Thornton is in Las Vegas this week for the NHL Awards, as he is nominated for the Masterton Trophy.
There was some doubt as to whether Thornton would come back to the Sharks. Two days after the team was eliminated from the playoffs by the St. Louis Blues in the Western Conference Final, Thornton said May 23 he still had to talk with his family and sit down with majority owner Hasso Plattner, general manager Doug Wilson and coach Pete DeBoer before he decided his next move.
