Gustav Nyquist scored a goal against the Sharks on Sunday afternoon. Hours later, he joined them.
The Sharks acquired the veteran winger from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for a 2019 second-round draft pick and a 2020 conditional third-round pick. Both teams quickly announced the trade after news of it first leaked.
Nyquist -- who's in the final season of a four-year, $19 million contract he signed with the Red Wings in 2015 -- waived his no-trade clause to facilitate the deal. Should the Sharks reach the Stanley Cup Final or he re-signs with San Jose, the 2020 third-round pick will become a second-rounder.
