Outside of Justin Williams' magical 2014 playoff run for the Los Angeles Kings, the Conn Smythe Trophy has been reserved for goaltenders and superstars. Since 2000, there have been five goalies -- some great (Jonathan Quick, Tim Thomas, Patrick Roy), some mediocre (Jean-Sebastien Giguere, Cam Ward) -- and an All-Star lineup of forwards and defenseman, including Jonathan Toews, Evgeni Malkin, Nicklas Lidstrom and on and on.
If his current pace continues throughout the Western Conference finals and beyond, current leader in the Conn Smythe clubhouse -- San Jose Sharks' forward Logan Couture -- could join Williams as the only role player to take home the playoff MVP award.
