TAMPA, Fla. — Erik Karlsson and the Sharks reached an agreement on an eight-year, $92 million contract on June 17, six days before soon-to-be unrestricted free agents could freely talk shop with other teams.
If Karlsson and the Sharks had not agreed to a deal by mid-June, would the Tampa Bay Lightning have been one of the teams that he might have met with once the interview period began?
“I think it would have been a fit for me, but I don’t think it would have been a viable one,” Karlsson said with the Sharks set to play the Lightning on Saturday night.
